What is Weathering?
Weathering is when the rocks or minerals break down or dissolve on the Earth's surface. Water, acids, salt, ice, plants, animals, and changes in the temperature of the weather are all producers of weathering. Once the rock has been broken down, a process called erosion takes the rocks and minerals away then deposits them elsewhere. No rock on the Earth's surface is solid enough to withstand weathering. The methods of weathering and erosion, together, carved the Grand Canyon, in the Grand Canyon National Park in the U.S. state: Arizona.

The Delicate Arch, in the Arches National Park near Moab in the U.S. state: Utah, is another example of weathering and erosion taking place in rocks and mineral.
