How Does Weathering Occur?
Solution is when it takes away the rock in solution by acidic rainwater. Specifically limestone is weathered by rainwater containing dissolved carbon dioxide, (this process is also called carbonation).
Hydrolysis is the breakdown of rocks by acidic water to make clay and dissolved salts. Oxidation is the breakdown of rock by oxygen and water, usually giving iron-rich rocks a rusty-colored weathered surface. |
